How is the
Santa
Monica
Pilates
program different than
other Pilates classes or programs?
Only our holistic program combines the
100% effective High Performance Customized Nutritional Program
(optional) and
body-specific cardiovascular assignments with the shaping and toning qualities of
one on one Pilates and core training. This results in a rapid loss of fat and rapid
increase in tone in the client, far more effective than taking classes
or lessons alone.
Our instructors are some of the most highly trained professionals in Los
Angeles. The program focuses on improving how you look in combination with your
health, strength and well-being. My program encompasses all the necessary components to reshape your body.
The program is designed to reshape your body.
You will
gain strength, be healthier, and
more fit. Together we will create the body you want.
What's
the difference between the
Santa
Monica
Pilates system and what other
instructors / trainers provide?
Our
holistic
program provides the 3 factors necessary
to lose fat and shape the body: Balanced nutrition, resistance training
(using Pilates), and cardiovascular training.
"You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a
completely different body in 30 sessions."
- Joseph Pilates (creator of the Pilates Method)
We offer private sessions only.
Sessions are one hour.

The
Pilates approach to exercise is not new but if you haven’t tried it yet, it
might be a good idea to incorporate this method into your workout routines. You
might ask: Why do I need another fad exercise? Well, first of all, it’s not a
fad, Pilates have been around for a long time and it's great for strengthening
the abdominal muscles, something most of us need. In fact, Pilates are much
better than basic abdominal crunches.
Trainers say that Pilates is best for core
training but in order to maximize your efforts, use pilates in
conjunction with an aerobics program of your choice. This will help you
retain your lean body mass, increase your metabolism, and add a good
cardiovascular element to your exercise regime. It will actually make
your workouts doubly effective.
Let’s discuss the specific principles and
benefits of Pilates.
Alignment
Proper posture is very important to the
practice of Pilates. It also means that you shouldn’t push the joints
beyond where the ligaments and connective tissues are strained.
Breath
Full breath is critical during
exercises. Joseph Pilates, the founder of the method, believed in
coordinating exercises with breath and using breath properly. “Squeeze
out the lungs as you would wring a wet towel dry,” he was known for
saying. “Even if you follow no other instructions, learn to breathe
correctly.” He advocated Pilates breathing done with
concentration, control, and precision.
Centering
The focus in Pilates is on the center
of the body or “powerhouse” area, between lower ribs and public bone.
All energy for Pilates exercises is said to begin from the powerhouse
and flow outward to the limbs. Strong powerhouse is very important in
Pilates.
Concentration
You have to commit to Pilates because
it demands intense focus. The belief is that if you bring full attention
to the exercise, you will get the maximum value out of it.
Control
Every exercise is done with muscle
control, not one body part is relaxed.
Precision
Practitioners believe that one precise
movement is more important than many halfhearted ones. The goal is for
the precision to become second nature and carry into regular life.
Flow
Pilates is practiced in a flowing
manner. Movements are expected to be kept continuous, full of grace,
fluidity and ease. Once precision has been achieved, the exercises are
intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength
and stamina.
Flexibility
Pilates is believed to enhance
flexibility and help prevent injuries. |

Laura teaches the traditional New York
(classical method) style of Pilates. She received her certification from
Pilates Technique, one of the most established and respected Pilates Teacher
Training programs.
Growing up, Laura played many different sports and continued on to play
Division 1 college soccer. With a background in athletics, personal training
and coaching, Laura sought out Pilates to improve her own core strength,
posture and alignment. And after experiencing total body changes from the
Pilates method, she wanted to bring these benefits to her own clients.
She believes that Pilates is the foundation for every form of exercise. It
teaches body awareness and control and improves alignment and posture, all
while building strength for more intense forms of activity and for the
movements of daily life.
Laura’s attention to detail and knowledge of movement allows her to tailor
sessions to each client’s needs. She uses Pilates not only to challenge the
body’s strength, but to also identify a body’s weaknesses and strengthen
those weaknesses. Laura also works with clients to rehabilitate past and
current injuries.
